| Prosthodontists are qualified dentists who have then undergone a minimum of a further three years of full time training and practise in all aspects of dentistry. This additional in-depth training means they have a wide and detailed knowledge of a range of dental techniques and a comprehensive view of the teeth as part of the human body.
Rather than simply providing cosmetic solutions which focus on the way things look they are trained to diagnose and treat underlying problems as part of the overall treatment programme.
This understanding carries through into all aspects of reconstructing smiles and appearances resulting in a superior long-term result.
Long Term Relationships
We take particular pride in the fact that we still have two patients who started with the practise in Dr Grainger's early years, and several more who have been with us for 60 years and more.
Substantial Investment
Since 1999 we have made a substantial and sustained investment in the newest technologies in both equipment and materials to ensure that we deliver the optimum level of care for all our patients.
The equipment:
- New dental chairs to improve the ergonomics and comfort of treatment.
- High quality hand pieces to reduce the vibration during preparation of teeth.
- Introduction of the Zeiss Operating Microscope for more accurate diagnosis and assessment of teeth, and more accurate preparation of tooth preparations for crowns etc.
- Computerized ceramic restorative system called Cerec 3D for CAD/CAM production of ceramic restorations such as inlays, onlays, some veneers and some crowns.
- Automated mixing systems for impression materials to eliminate porosity and distortion.
- High definition low radiation dose digital X-rays to reduce radiation exposure to 1/80 of that when I took over the practice. It also gives us an image in 3 seconds, on a screen so the patient can easily see the results.
- New and dedicated infection control area and barrier protocols. New Autoclaves with cycle monitoring systems, one of which is dedicated to the hand pieces.
- New computerized patient management system to streamline appointments, billing systems, health fund refunds, and referrals.
- New lighting, cupboards and flooring to help maintain a brighter, cleaner work area.
- Positioning of the equipment to allow disabled patient access to all chairs.
The materials:
- We constantly review restorative materials as newer products come on to the market. There is a continuous change in resin and ceramicrestoratives as well as impression materials and these are the main areas we look at.
- Recent changes in surface technology for dental implants, has led to our introduction of the Astra Osseospeed implants into the practice.
- The introduction of Nitrous Oxide conscious edation
