| Understand our Mission
Today, middle and mature age adults are focused on staying healthy, looking good and leading active and productive lives. Whilst exercising, eating right and regular health check ups all help, taking care of your teeth and gums has an equally important role to play in ensuring that you lead a long, happy and healthy life.
However whilst recent research suggests that 78% of baby boomers consider dental care to be a part of their preventative healthcare regime, almost one third never visit a dental professional, or do so only in an emergency.
High Level of Risk
It is sobering to realise that through no fault of their own these same people are particularly at risk when it comes to their dental health because:
- Fluoride was of only limited benefit to them as they grew up before it was introduced into reticulated water supplies.
- There was a lack of understanding and motivation about the paramount importance of oral hygiene for teeth and gums in their early years.
- When the high-speed drill was first introduced there was a limited understanding of its destructive nature and most practising dentists at the time had no formal training in its use. The extensive preparations and design of cavities coupled with extensive amalgam restorations has led to severely weakened teeth. Such teeth after many years of use usually fracture and require more extensive restorations such as crowns.
- As people age subtle changes in the mouth occur. For example cavities may reoccur, especially for adults who have receding gums that expose the soft roots of the teeth. Decay may also develop around the margins of older existing fillings.
